A mysterious child teaches two strangers how to love and trust again.
After the loss of her mother and her own battle with breast cancer, Joanna Teale returns to her graduate research on nesting birds in rural Illinois, determined to prove that her recent hardships have not broken her. She throws herself into her work from dusk to dawn, until her solitary routine is disrupted by the appearance of a mysterious child who shows up at her cabin barefoot and covered in bruises.

During this book I did something I NEVER DO WHEN IT COMES TO BOOKS, I was screaming: I NEED SPOILERS PLEASE! But truly I didn’t want them, I just didn’t want what Ursa claimed to be turn out to be a lie, but I didn’t want it to be true either. I was all over the place.

Then, about halfway through I settled in and let the story embed itself into my heart, and it did. I enjoyed the pain, heartbreak, hope, loneliness, guilt, truth, all of it! I did find the "healing" to be a bit rushed but loved the book so much, it just didn't matter.
